Attendance Policy to be considered active in Troop 220
In ordered to be considered “active” and therefor eligible for advancement in Troop 220 we are requiring that a Scout attend at a minimum 1 meeting per month and 1 campout per Quarter with the exception of the summer Quarter (June, July and August).
- A meeting will be considered attended if the Scout is in attendance for 1 full meeting, opening through closing.
- A campout will be considered attended if a Scout spends at least one night with the Troop and 6 hours of program time on Saturday.
Satellite campouts will not be considered as Troop campouts. Other Scouting events, such as training, Order of the Arrow, high adventure, etc… will not be considered as campouts, but may be appealed to count on a case by case basis.
If a Scout has not met the minimum requirements to be considered active an appeal may be written and sent to the Troop Committee Chair for a review if that Scout has had other Scouting obligations that have interfered temporarily with the Troop’s activities.
If a Scout is still considered inactive by the Troop policy then we need to revert back to the National policy on whether or not the Scout is indeed active on a National minimal basis. In that case the Scout will need to prove, in writing, that he is living by the standards of the Scout Oath and Law and is contributing to his community in an exemplary manner that would be considered to be being active in his life as a Scout. This written proof must include reference letters from other community leaders, such as teachers, coaches, religious leaders, etc. It must include a letter from the parent/guardian and a letter from the Scout himself to be considered.
The review committee for the appeals will be the Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters, Committee Chair and the advancement committee. All decisions are to be communicated in writing.
